Ongoing Facility News & Updates

January 29, 2010 - Due to the severe thaw and freeze cycle over the last week, we have postponed the drilling of 3 gas wells on the East slope to replace temporary wells until further notice. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

January 26, 2010 - As you know, we experienced odours last week. Last Friday, a leachate dewatering manhole on the south slope and 2 temporary LFG wells were installed on the NW and SW slopes.

The main source was the dewatering manhole on the south slope. The manhole discharges into a leachate collector cleanout manhole. The cleanout manhole LFG quality varies and the extracted flow was reduced as per WM guidelines.

The issue is that the flow of LFG increased in the manhole causing LFG to vent for the leachate dewatering manhole through the dewatering system. This manhole is now maintained under vacuum and has resolved the odours on the south slope.

We also have to drill 2 new wells on the NW slope to stop the odour in that zone as this is now the main source of LFG. We now have odours on the NW slope but get enough dilution to a point where we don't smell odour offsite.

Odour surveys were conducted on Friday and on the weekend and no odours were experienced offsite.

We will also complete a full well performance analysis (circle of influence analysis) and look at water levels in the LFG wells to assess the pump performance.

November 16, 2009 - Please note that the enclosed flares will be shut down Wednesday November 18th for regular maintenance. They will be fully operational upon completion of this work. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

October 23, 2009 - The discharge lines for the purge well system are being replaced around the front of the site. This construction and replacement of lines will enable us to clean and maintain them for the next 25 years. We apologize in advance for the work being completed near the new recycling center. Work is expected to be completed by the end of November.

April 09, 2009 - The flares will shut down at 10:00am. The power outage should last about one hour and is required to update the main electrical panel to connect the new electrical loop around the landfill footprint.

February 12, 2009 - Horizontal gas collector trenching will be taking place at the south side base of the landfill commencing on Friday February 13th and continuing on Saturday February 14th. There may be a slight odour impact during the work completion. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

February 03, 2009 - A total of fifteen landfill gas wells will be installed on the northeast corner of the landfill footprint over the next two weeks. Measures will be taken to minimize any odour impact during the construction of the wells. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
